Why do we yawn and is it contagious?

There is no one answer to this question as there is still much debate surrounding the reasons why we yawn. Some scientists believe that yawning is a way for our bodies to regulate our temperature, as it is often done in response to feeling overheated. It has also been suggested that yawning is a way to help us wake up and be more alert. It is possible that it is a combination of both of these things, as well as other factors. yawning is definitely contagious, as seeing someone else yawn can often trigger a yawn in ourselves.

There are many theories as to why yawning is contagious, but the most likely explanation is that it is a way of showing empathy. When we see someone else yawning, we mirror their behavior in order to feel what they are feeling. This is known as the chameleon effect and it helps us to feel closer to other people.
