Why is world map not to scale?

There are many reasons why world maps are not to scale. The most common reason is that it is not possible to accurately represent the three-dimensional surface of the earth on a two-dimensional map. This means that some areas will appear larger or smaller than they actually are. Additionally, the shapes of some countries may be distorted in order to make them fit onto a map.

Another reason why world maps are not to scale is that different map projection methods can give different results. This means that even if two maps are using the same scale, they may not actually be to scale with each other. Finally, world maps are often not to scale because they are designed for a specific purpose. For example, a world map that is meant to show the distribution of population will not be to scale with a world map that is meant to show the distribution of land area.
