Why does money make us feel so good?

We’ve all heard the saying “money can’t buy happiness.” But it turns out that it actually can—up to a point. A new study finds that people who earn more money are generally happier than those who earn less, but there’s a catch. The relationship between money and happiness is complex. On the one hand, money can buy you the things you need to live a comfortable life, which can in turn lead to happiness. But on the other hand, the pursuit of money can often be stressful and lead to unhappiness.

So why does money make us feel so good? One reason may be that it gives us a sense of control. With money, we can buy the things we want and need, when we want them. We can also use money to avoid unpleasant experiences, like buying a ticket to a movie we don’t want to see instead of going to it. Another reason may be that money is a form of social currency. We use it to buy gifts for friends and family, to show our appreciation for their help, or to make a good impression. Finally, money may make us feel good because it is a tangible representation of our success. When we make more money, we feel like we’ve accomplished something. Of course, there are limits to how much money can improve our mood. Once our basic needs are met, additional income has diminishing returns. And if we become too focused on making money, it can actually lead to anxiety and stress. So if you’re looking to boost your happiness, don’t focus on making more money. Instead, focus on how you’re spending the money you have. Make sure you’re using it in ways that will improve your life and relationships, and you’ll be on your way to a happier, healthier life.
