Why do we cough more at night?

There are a few reasons why people might cough more at night. For one, lying down flat can trigger a cough reflex. This is because when you lie down, mucus can more easily drip down the back of your throat, irritating your airway and causing you to cough. Additionally, dust and other allergens tend to settle overnight, which can also lead to increased coughing. Finally, many respiratory infections are worse at night, causing people to cough more.
